Family Traditions Thrive in this Mid-Michigan Recreational Community

The Horsehead Lake Association is a nonprofit group of citizens dedicated to preserve and enhance the environmental and recreational quality and safety of the Horsehead Lake, Big John Brown Lake, and Little John Brown Lake.

We invite you to discover the wonders and fun of our lakes!

Our organization works for clean, fun, safe and healthy lakes for everybody by:

  • Working with the Department of Natural Resources and the Michigan Lake and Stream Associations on the ongoing monitoring of our lakes' quality.

  • Working with the DNR continuously on planting fish in the lakes.

  • Helping to monitor gypsy moth infestation and works with county personnel when spraying is indicated, collecting money from lake property owners for that purpose.

  • Giving out information on individal gypsy moth control measures.

  • Working with Martiny Township to manage Eurasian Watermilfoil treatments.

  • Working with local emergency personnel for the purchase, installation, and maintenance of fire zone signs at road entrances.

  • Purchasing and installing, with DNR approval, a number of boating markers on and near the lakes.

  • Commissioning various environmental surveys on the lake to monitor the status and potential problems on the lake.

  • Maintaining contact with natural gas providers regarding any plans they may have to bring service into the lakes' area.

  • Issuing a quarterly newsletter with news and items of information of interest to Association members.

  • Working closely with the Mecosta County Drain Commissioner in monitoring proper lake levels.

  • Holding several annual events including: 4th of July Boat Parade, Young Anglers Fishing Contest, Annual Family Picnic, and more.

  • Cleaning much of the common areas by organizing volunteers to conduct clean-ups.

  • And much more.
